What is fulvic exactly?
In a nutshell, fulvic is a concentrated blend of all the minerals and trace elements found in an immense array of organic plants. But, Fulvic should never be confused with a simple juice extraction. It goes far beyond the juiced form of phytonutrients.
The source of fulvic is pure, living, fruits, vegetables, and plant matter that has been buried, compressed, and highly concentrated. Through natural biological activity, these active, living, plant nutrients have been converted into a highly concentrated ionic substance known as fulvic. This fulvic/humic source material was buried millions of years ago, during extreme geological events, and was preserved in its living, pristine form, where it has been untouched and unaffected by pollution, chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers to this day.
Scientists are still puzzling their way through the intricate structure of fulvic; finding that each new experiment reveals another layer of complexity. Whether fulvic survives the processing all depends on how it's handled...
How fulvic is handled during the extraction process is crucial. At specific stages in the extraction, fulvic can be fragile and easily damaged. Some manufacturers use harsh, toxic chemicals to rush the process, to turn out more product in less time… but this unfortunately destroys the precious fulvic, the very ingredient they are seeking to extract. These products many times tout a high mineral concentration, which is misleading to consumers. This is because they have chemically extracted high levels of isolated minerals, but have killed the fulvic in the process.
If you're looking for the highest mineral absorption, then you need fulvic, because all the minerals have been complexed and dissolved within the fulvic, ready for the body to utilize in its purist form. Why isolate and extract the minerals out of the fulvic??? This type of sub-standard extraction produces a mineral product with acidity levels reaching as low as 2.0 pH.
Because of our gentle, meticulous process that utilizes nothing but cool, purified water, Vital Earth’s fulvic has a highly beneficial alkaline pH of between 7.0 and 7.8. We do not use any chemicals, high heat, or pressure extrusion. Our fulvic is as natural as you can get.
Alkaline fulvic in its natural, undamaged form offers incredible benefits to the body; whereas acidic products containing chemical residues, low fulvic content (because the fulvic has been killed during the processing) offer little to no benefit at all.
And What About Less Expensive Mineral “Concentrates”?
Beware of fulvic concentrates where you add water to make several bottles of fulvic from one tiny bottle of “fulvic concentrate”. We liken those concentrates to "selling a used tea bag".
Here's a simple analogy. When you make a cup of tea, the first steeping is where you get your best cup of tea, right? If you re-use that tea bag, all the good flavor has already been extracted...but what if you found that extreme high heat and the use of some harsh chemicals could synthetically force out anything still remaining in the used tea leaves?
With this sub-standard processing, organic fulvic is destroyed. But now you have a concentrate...it's highly acidic, contains virtually no living fulvic, has dangerous chemical residues, and now must be flavored and sweetened to cover all this up - and it's ready to sell to unknowing consumers. The price is right, and if you don't know what a difference all natural processing makes, then these concentrates appear to be a very "good deal".
To give you a better understanding of where Vital Earth's high quality fulvic comes from, and why we don’t sell concentrates (and probably never will) let us explain our precision extraction process.
The gentle Vital Earth extraction process
Here's how Vital Earth extracts fulvic to create a 100% "fulvic in solution" product:
At the end of a very lengthy, proprietary extraction procedure, using nothing but cold, double reverse osmosis, non-chlorinated, magnetically purified water, 80% of the nutrients from the original humic source, which includes a high concentration of fulvic, become suspended in solution in a large vat.
This "suspended" mineral-rich fulvic solution is then siphoned off the top of the vat, it continues through another series of filtering stages, further isolating the fulvic through each stage, and then, the final product is at last bottled in its purest form. What are customers are getting is 100% fulvic carefully extracted from the rich humic source material.
The dregs in the bottom of the vat still contain a few nutrients. Because this is fantastic for plants, we give ours to farmers to put on their fields. Unfortunately, some manufacturers sell this byproduct to consumers, calling it a “concentrate”. As we said, we think it's kind of like selling someone a used tea bag. All the most valuable nutrients have already been extracted.
Another way to get a concentrate is to dehydrate a fulvic solution…which entails high heat processing. High heat kills fulvic, just as it does other natural substances. The only value to be obtained from the product is from whatever minimal amount of fulvic that may have survived the high heat dehydration process. Not very good odds…
How to spot acidic minerals
(see the section on Body Acidity, below, for an explanation of the acid/alkaline pH range)
Whether or not a mineral product is flavored can tell you about how it was processed. Some liquid mineral manufacturers use flavoring to mask the undesirable taste and smell of harmful chemicals used to shortcut and speed up the extraction process. Not only are you absorbing unhealthy chemical residues, but the product itself has none of the oxygenating, alkalizing benefits that an alkaline product such as Fulvic Mineral Complex has.
Another way to tell is to read the label and look at the measurement of the minerals. Products that specifically list a high milligram measurement of minerals have probably been subjected to chemical acid processing. Why? Because the manufacturer has used harsh chemicals to specifically extract and isolate just the minerals, (without concern for the fulvic). Remember, the chemicals used in these types of extraction kill off the valuable fulvic, and minerals are of little benefit to the body without fulvic.
Whereas, a product that is high in beneficial fulvic will have a mineral content that is in "trace" (lower) amounts; nature has dissolved and complexed the minerals into the fulvic structure, the way the body was intended to utilize them best.

Organic fulvic is naturally ionic, or dissolved (not colloidal), the taste is bland, ranging from almost no taste to a very slight hint of tanginess or tartness. It will be so mild it does not require flavoring or sweeteners to be palatable.
The color of an “unprocessed” fulvic should be a bright, clear golden color, similar to cider, and it should have at least a 7.0 or higher alkaline pH. It will contain all the minerals and trace elements in trace amounts, unless the manufacturer has artificially boosted the mineral content.

Body acidity and pH
PH is how acidity and alkalinity are measured. The scale ranges from 14.0 pH, which is top of the alkaline scale, down to 7.0 pH being neutral, and on down the scale with 0.0 pH being the bottom of the acidic side of the scale.
Over acidity in the body makes you susceptible to many diseases, and weakens all the systems of the body. It is a condition that many people find difficult to control, so the last thing they want is a product that contributes toward that unhealthy condition.
There are many liquid minerals on the market today that are highly acidic, with an acid pH in the range of 2.0 pH to 4.0 pH, because of their processing techniques. Also, when chemicals are used unhealthy toxic chemical residues remain in the product and are ingested. The end product must be flavored and sweetened to mask the vile taste.

What is Fulvic’s purpose within the body
Fulvic’s function is to balance and energize all cell life and biological properties it comes in contact with. If you can restore individual cells to their normal chemical balance and electrical potential, then you have given those cells life. What if the newly energized cells belong to a liver, a heart, or the thyroid? Those organs could have the potential to function at peak performance.
Scientists believe disease is rampant today because people are so deficient in fulvic and the minerals, trace elements, and nutrients it contains. Why You Need Fulvic Each and Every Day
Most people don’t think about what their body requires to function in peak form, day after day. Unfortunately, if you’re relying solely on a healthy diet as a means of achieving this, you may be heading for disaster.
Researchers have known for years that at least 90 nutrients are needed to maintain optimum health. These nutrients include a minimum of 60-84 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 amino acids and 3 essential fatty acids. No matter what conditions plants are grown in, good or bad, they will manufacture vitamins, and those vitamins will be available for humans and animals. Minerals are a different story.
Whether a plant contains the sufficient amount of fulvic minerals depends on the quality and quantity of minerals in the soil. Minerals must be supplied to the plant from the soil they're grown in. If the minerals are not in the soil, they won’t be in the plant. (And remember, vitamins can only be absorbed by the body if minerals are present to create the reactions that enable them to be activated by the body.)
How does the body use fulvic?
When you eat food have you ever thought about where the nutrients actually go, and how that food fuels your body? Food fuels the body because it fuels the cells. Once fulvic absorbs and then prepares nutrients for utilization by the body, it then delivers them directly into living cells. Fulvic is literally feeding nutrients to all the vital processes of your body.
So you can see how important it is for all the proper functions to happen that allow that the biggest percentage of that fuel to actually reach the cells. The whole process of feeding the cells is supercharged by fulvic. That is fulvic’s main job; Fulvic makes all nutrients more absorbable.
Fulvic and weight loss
Although not advertised as a weight loss product, a great side benefit is that many people lose excess weight when they start taking fulvic. Low blood oxygen leads to blood acidity. Production of digestive enzymes diminishes with age, so unfortunately a lack of digestive enzymes can overstress the digestive system, making complete digestion of food difficult, which can then lead to the malabsorption of nutrients. A lesson on free radicals
What is a free radical? They have to do with atoms. All atoms have a ring around them composed of many electrons. Each electron ideally has a “buddy”, making the atom very stable.
Free radicals are created when an electron loses its buddy and is no longer in a pair. This opens the door to a chemical reaction whereby the unpaired electron seeks out another atom or molecule to bond with, creating a chain reaction of oxidation.
Normally a healthy body can keep this process in check, but if there is an excess of free radicals, created from eating a diet high in vegetable oils, for example, damage to cells and tissue can occur. These free radicals circulate throughout the body, injuring tissue and making cells susceptible to infections, diseases, or worst of all, cancer causing mutations.
That’s where free radical scavengers come in; they neutralize harmful free radicals, and Fulvic is one of the most powerful free radical scavengers known to science.
When Fulvic encounters free radicals with unpaired electrons, (electrons without a “buddy”), it supplies that missing electron “buddy”, and creates a stable atom, therefore neutralizing the free radical. We isolate and extract only the fulvic from our humic source and this is what we bottle - 100% fulvic in solution. Our proprietary extraction process protects and preserves 100% of the fulvic.
We never add any harmful chemicals, or use high heat or pressure extrusion- all of which destroy fulvic. Some manufacturers use these harmful techniques as a shortcut to achieve faster extraction. Our natural process is lengthy, time consuming and complex but we do it this way to preserve every bit of the precious fulvic in our formulas.
Fulvic Mineral Complex’s Humic Source is an Impressive 7%
Vital Earth's original humic source contains an impressive 7% fulvic potency, whereas many mineral products come from sources that are only 3% to 4% fulvic to start with. To explain, within the humic itself there is a certain percentage of fulvic. Vital Earth's humic source contains a 7% concentration of fulvic. And as we said above, we isolate only the fulvic, so what we bottle is 100% fulvic in enough solution to keep to retain its liquid form.
Can you get too many minerals?
Many people wonder if they will be getting “too many minerals” if they are consuming other products that also contain minerals…such as a high dose calcium supplement. The answer is no because Vital Earth’s fulvic is extracted from plant material – not rocks or clay. When plant derived fulvic enter the system, it is immediately recognized as one of nature’s essential substances. It triggers the proper metabolic responses that utilize the minerals where they’re needed, discarding those that are not needed. It is impossible for plant derived minerals to build up in the tissues.
Fulvic Mineral Complex is NOT a Colloidal
Colloidals are solid particles that are simply being held in suspension in a liquid; they are too large to be easily used by cells and offer little health benefit.
The ionic particles of fulvic are “dissolved”, and are so small they are not measurable in liquid form, which means they are able to pass right through cell membranes into the cells where they’re needed. Ionic minerals offer incredible benefits, but the benefits of colloidal minerals are marginal at best. There are no colloidal minerals in Fulvic Mineral Complex.
Why fulvic is commonly called “Fulvic Acid”
Back in the 50’s, U.S. researchers used chemicals and acids to extract fulvic from ancient deposits of humic material. The process left a vile aftertaste, killed off most of the fulvic and made the product highly acid. That is when and why “acid” became part of the fulvic name in the U.S. In other parts of the world, the benefit of “unprocessed” alkaline pH fulvic is well known and has been used for centuries.
As fulvic was introduced to the American public, commercial manufacturers continued to use the old acid based extraction process. Their only concern was producing a colloidal product with a high mineral count, because they did not understand the crucial role fulvic plays in our health.
If Fulvic comes from living plant matter why can’t I simply get it naturally from the fruits and vegetables I eat?
In a perfect world we would all consume nutrient rich fruits and vegetable and there would be no need to supplement our diets with fulvic; it would be readily available in our food supply.
Unfortunately, our current farming practices use chemicals and pesticides that kill the microorganisms that create fulvic, and because of this, Fulvic minerals are severely lacking in today’s fruits and vegetables. Even our farm animals, who are now consuming fulvic deficient greens are mineral deficient themselves.
How fulvic is created in nature
In nature, Fulvic is created by microbial activity at the roots of plants. Its function is to dissolve, and convert the metallic and clay based mineral molecules that are in soils, into a form that is usable by plants, animals and people. Plants cannot uptake minerals into their root system until the minerals have been converted, by fulvic, into an organic form.
Once the minerals are converted (dissolved), plants uptake the powerful fulvic substance that is loaded with dissolved minerals and trace elements, into their root system, and become saturated with health giving fulvic.
When the fulvic microorganisms in soil are destroyed, plants are not able to take the undissolved metallic and clay minerals into their root systems. The minerals remain in their original inorganic form in the soil, unusable by plants, causing the plants to become mineral deficient.
To complicate matters, the mineral content of our soils is extremely low right now. Farm lands have been overused and minerals are not being replaced the way nature intended. What is being found is that many non-organically raised fruits and vegetables contain high levels of unhealthy chemical fertilizers and low levels of healthy minerals.
Our fruits and vegetables may be large, uniform and beautiful, but testing shows the nutrient content is lower than in years past. Foods with high fulvic content are very difficult to obtain, making it essential that we supplement our diets with this essential substance.
