Super Multi bottle

How does Super Multi stack up against the competition?

We analyzed numerous retail liquid multi vitamin products to see where Super Multi ranked regarding the following attributes:

  • Quality and variety of ingredients
  • Potency
  • Co-factor contents
  • Type of sweeteners used
  • Preservatives
  • Coloring, fillers and binders, etc.

We didn’t find a single formula that contained the wide and varied combination of highly beneficial characteristics found in Vital Earth's Super Multi. Many were mediocre (and expensive!), a few brands came close, quite a few were really bad, and some made us downright mad! In many we found a variety of unacceptable preservatives and added colorings.

If you're wondering how you would choose a good product yourself, just use the parameters we listed at the top of this page and start comparing ingredients on the Supplement Facts panel, and the "Other Ingredients" area. You will be able to see big differences very quickly. The real answers are in the forms of ingredients, potencies, and additives.

We found deceptive tactics.

Some products touted powerful benefits on the marketing area of their labels, (the front and side panels), but ultimately, what we found were lousy contents and labeling tactics that were unquestionably deceitful.

For example, one product used the word “Organic” in their product name. This does NOT mean the ingredients are all organic…but how many people would know this, when it’s written so boldly. Their label also stated “made with organic ingredients”, but we noted that about 90% of the items on their supplement facts label were clearly not organic. Of course, they didn’t say “all” organic ingredients, but it is still misleading. We wondered if the average consumer would catch this.

We found several combination multi-vitamin formulas where an extremely small amount of a fruit/vegetable/greens blend was included in the formula so it could be marketed as “Whole food based blend of essential vitamins”, and “Vegetarian”. This gives the impression that the product is a "Greens" formula and all the nutrients are organic and from plants, which was not the case.

The nutrients on the FDA required “Supplement Facts” portion of the product label for this "Whole Food Blend" product were not whole food based or strictly vegetarian at all. We quickly surmised that the fruit/veggies/greens blend statement on the front of the bottle was nothing more than a marketing gimmick to enable them to use the words people were looking for, as opposed to providing them with a quality product that actually worked. The actual “measured”, individual vitamins were all in varying degrees of potencies ranging from low to worthless. (And by the way, it tasted really bad!)

Probably our worst discovery was the use of artificial sweeteners in a few heavily advertised liquid vitamin formulas. These companies have huge marketing budgets and are hitting every magazine and web site out there promoting their products as a wonderful solution for the whole family – even kids. Unwary and trusting consumers are putting their faith in these products hoping to improve their health…when in reality the damage from that one ingredient alone is staggering.

Here's a list of the ingredients you will NOT find in Super Multi:

  • No Gluten
  • No Soy
  • No GMOs
  • No MSG
  • No Dairy
  • No Starch
  • No Yeast
  • No Sugar
  • No Artificial colors or flavors
  • No Artificial Sweeteners
  • No Crystalline Fructose/HFCS.

That's a pretty big list and not many competitors can match this. What's NOT in a formula can be just as important as what it contains.

Why are there some synthetic ingredients in Super Multi?

We use completely natural sources whenever possible. However, some vitamins cannot be extracted at such high potencies and converted into the form necessary to have stability for use in a liquid, without some kind of laboratory process. This processing may ultimately change the form of the ingredient and cause it to no longer be labeled as a “natural” source. Processing changes molecular components.

In Super Multi, some of the vitamins are all natural, such as Vitamin D and E. Some originate from natural sources which are extracted and processed to enable them to be used for our purpose, and others, such as B-12 are synthetic. Our lab’s policy is to use natural sourced vitamins whenever possible.

For example, to explain the process a little better…according to our lab, getting 5000% of the RDA of B-12, or 300 mcg, in an all natural form into the bottle would be impossible. This high potency is recommended because of the way B vitamins are so easily depleted in the body by things such as heat, microwaving food, drinking alcohol, stress and other factors.

Processed foods containing additives, chemicals, colorings, MSG, trans fat, and more, all deplete nutrients from the body. For many people, adding supplements to their diet to counteract the nutrient deficiency of our current food sources may be the best way to guard against vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Multi vitamins can help fill the gap when you can't get proper nutrition from your food. We consider all the above factors and what will ultimately give us the best possible product for high absorption and utilization.

Remember, over the years research has been conducted by respected scientists that have proven that ill health can be reversed with measurable vitamins, many of which are technically considered synthetics. Linus Pauling’s research on ascorbic acid is a good example. Many consider this to be a synthetic from of Vitamin C, yet he proved how effective supplementation with high doses of ascorbic acid could be for many serious health conditions.
